BAYLAKE PINES SCHOOL UPPER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Middle School Program at Baylake Pines is both exciting and demanding. Students at this age are faced with so many challenges and choices. Our faculty and administration are committed to promoting responsible decision making. Our goal is to assist in the development of strong minds, character, morals, social responsibilty and academic success now and in the years beyond Baylake Pines. We clearly define our expectations and believe that academic and personal integrity are essential factors in creating a safe and trusting educational environment. Every student must agree to uphold and follow the Baylake Pines Honor Code. The Honor Code is based on a system of trust and respect among students, faculty and staff, in an effort to develop strong morals and mature decision making. In addition to the Honor Code, students agree to abide by and support all of the school policies including our Dress Code.
The Middle School Curriculum includes Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry (high school credit course); French (French II is high school credit course); P.E. (which includes Health for 5th-8th grades), Art, Music, English (Grammar, Composition, and Literature); Physical Science and Earth Science (high school credit course). Eighth graders at Baylake Pines will choose a topic and prepare a speech to
be presented to their peers and families at the end of the academic year.
BEYOND 8TH GRADE?
Upon graduating from Baylake Pines, 99% of our students are accepted into the Academy or school of their choice. Our guidance department and teachers will be helping your child make the best possible transition into high school. Many of our students go on to attend Norfolk Academy, Norfolk Collegiate, Cape Henry Collegiate or one of the Academy programs offered, such as the Princess Anne IB program or the First Colonial Legal Studies Academy. Eighth Grade Students can receive high school credit for French, Geometry, and Earth Science.
Our students leave Baylake Pines with self-confidence, ready to accept the challenges and adventures ahead.
What an exciting time!
Baylake Pines Lower School offers quality care for students in our Extended Care Program until 5:30 pm each school day. Our program offers homework assistance, structured and free play activities.
Our staff create an environment where children can feel safe, while providing an opportunity for academic and social growth. The Upper School Extended Care Program is primarily used as a Study Block for those students who wish to complete their homework. Those who like to burn some energy can play sports or other games in the gym. On days that we have 'Home' games, students in Extended Care may attend the game as a group. Snacks and drinks are offered for a nominal fee.

3rd through 5th Grades | "The Hall"
Our 3rd through 5th grade hall, also know as "The Hall," continues to build well-rounded, confident students. As with the Lower School, our accelerated curriculum challenges students. Class sizes are small so we are able to tailor our teaching methods to each individual student and his or her academic pace. A day in the life of a 3rd though 5th grade student includes core classes as well as a rotation of auxillary classes including Art, French, Music, P.E., and Computers. 3rd grade students will continue with a weekly library lesson. 4th and 5th grade students will be permitted to visit the library and check-out books, as allowed by their teacher.
Other activities that will continue through The Hall years are class plays and outdoor time after lunch. Unique to 5th grade is the D.A.R.E. program. D.A.R.E. is a ten week course designed to make students aware of the dangers and consequences of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use. Bullying and cyberbullying are also addressed.
"And will you succeed? Yes! You will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed)."
